Melbourne Trip-Day 3!

On Friday Barry and the kids went to the hotel pool first thing in the morning. Then we got ready for our last day in the city and packed up our bags. We walked back to the Italian district to have a light brekkie and good coffee to start our day. Hannah really wanted to ride a double-decker sightseeing bus, so we decided to do that for the day. There was actually 2 loops and we could jump on and off as much as we wanted.

Melbourne City Sightseeing Bus Tour, February 27th, 2015
Our first stop on the tour was the Royal Botanic Gardens. A person could spend a full day here and never get tired of the views. It was just gorgeous! There was an amazing children's garden that Barry and the kids explored while I went to find some snacks for the kids. That meant I got to walk through some of the gardens by myself, which was nice and quiet. The smells were amazing! No idea what the plants were, but wish I could fill my garden with those.

This is not a swimming pool Lydia!
We had a little picnic on the lawn in the gardens and then the kids played a game of tag. It was perfect weather and so beautiful. Sure wish we could have stayed there for a nap!

After we left the gardens we decided to take the other loop and tour the coastal region in Melbourne. We knew Lydia would probably use the bus as her nap too-and we got lucky, it worked!

The kids both took turns with the camera, so we have a lot of interesting pictures on our camera. Kiernan took pictures of buildings and other random things. He specifically took the picture below because he wanted to capture the cool windows AND the "L" in the side of the building. "L" for Lydia I presume?!

We had stashed our luggage at the hotel for the day, so we needed to swing by and pick up our bags before heading to the train station. We were all a bit hungry, so we stopped at a bar called Trunk for drinks and appetizers. Great wine, or maybe any wine would have done it at this point in the trip. HA!
Happy hour with the kids
To get to the train station we had to take a tram from our hotel area to the correct station. The tram stops are in the middle of the road and the waiting area is only about 3 feet wide. Terrifying with 3 children, but they were good about standing against the fence and we always held Lydia. So wild! The tram was standing room only, which was fine since we packed light. I think the kids were surprised by the crowds-their eyes got really big when more people would hop on.

We caught a train back to Geelong and got home around 8:30 on Friday night. It was a great trip to the city!
