Strawberry Festival and Sunday drive

Hello, how are you going? We've gotten used to this phrase now. It's March! On Sunday, we went to Mass in Ocean Grove and then on to the Wallington Strawberry Festival. It's the Wallington Primary School (a local school near Ocean Grove) annual fundraiser and they have plenty of strawberry goodies! There was live music, a magician, carnival rides, games and food.

Sunday was perfect weather, so we decided to drive to Kennett River on the Great Ocean Road and see the koalas in the wild. We packed a picnic lunch and headed out. It was a great day to drive...very sunny and sparkling ocean views. I think I could do that drive every Sunday.

Many people have mentioned that if you pull off the road at Kennett River that all you have to do is look up and you'll find koalas. They were right! We saw several in the trees right after we parked the car.

We also got up close to several Crimson Rosellas in the same area. Gorgeous birds and very friendly. Probably because of a man and little girl handing out birdseed (probably not supposed to feed the wild birds) to visitors. They did hand some birdseed to Hannah and Kiernan, so they got to hold the birds too. Not something we would typically do, but hey, everyone else was doing it.

The same man handing out birdseed also told us that there were some king parrots up on a trail near where we were, so we went to check them out. They were bigger than rainbow lorakeets and the crimson rosellas. These were pretty friendly too, but none landed on us.

It was a fabulous drive along the coast and all the wildlife was great to see. It's amazing how precariously the koalas seem to sit in the trees. The wind was really blowing on Sunday and the branches were moving a lot. I can't believe they can stay in one place, let alone stay asleep!
