Hannah and Kiernan had a 2 week term break, and Term 2 started back up on Monday, April 13th. Lydia and I enjoyed having them around during the day. Tuesday, April 7th, it was rather rainy and cold, so we went to a movie at the theater at St. Mary of the Angels Basilica in Geelong. Yes, there is a small movie theater in the parish hall. They offer movies during school term breaks and holidays. Now Kiernan thinks our church in Manhattan needs a theater.

There's also been plenty of pretend play going on around here. We've been going to different parks when we get a chance too. Thursday was beautiful weather, so we went to the Ocean Grove park and had a picnic.

Creature story: On Wednesday, April 8th, I was in the laundry room and saw something crawling under the clothes on the floor. I moved the clothes back thinking it was a small spider, but NOPE, it was a SCORPION. I was shocked, as I didn't know there were scorpions in this area of Australia. I thought they were totally desert creatures?! I immediately called the kids down to check it out, then I had to kill it. It was moving around pretty fast and at that point I didn't know if I was dealing with something poisonous or not. I also didn't get a picture of it, as I wasn't about to leave the room to go get my camera. I did look it up later and it appears they are fairly common in gardens around here (less so in houses), and their sting isn't poisonous but it is painful. They suggest seeing a doctor if you are stung. I hope that we don't see another one in the house, but if I get a chance to see another one here I'll be sure to snap a photo. And if there's another one in the laundry room I may be crazy enough to catch it and release it. They are pretty cool, and it was really small.
On Saturday we went to the Aboriginal Cultural Centre in Geelong. The main part of the centre is closed on Saturdays, but their adventure playground, trails and boomerang throwing area are open. The kids had a blast at the adventure playground, and we all had a lot of fun trying to get boomerangs to come back to us. No worries - we purchased a couple of boomerangs to try out with friends and family back home (in a wide open space, not our backyard). We also went to Moorabool Valley Cafe and Chocolaterie to have lunch and chocolate snacks. This place was on a horse farm outside Geelong. Pretty farm and nice setup-might have to get back there!

Sunday we spent some time playing on the beach. Hannah felt inspired to come up with a quick poem:
The ocean is fun
The ocean is cool
The waves come crashing
It was a great week just being locals. We are getting excited for Thursday. Grandma Mary and Grandpa Jim (Barry's parents) and Madonna (Barry's aunt) will be arriving! We've got lots of fun planned for them.
